Job Search Strategy Project Update (6) This is a seven post series describing what a job search strategy looks like. SWOT Analysis:  This is another thing to google, if you are not familiar with it. Its a common model used in business school you basically do a study on Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. You can do this on a company, or an industry, but in this case, you would do it on yourself.  What are your strengths?  Are you playing to them? Do they present you with any opportunities?  What are your weaknesses? Do you need to work on them, or should you work on your strengths instead?  What threats do you have (in your career) because of your weaknesses?  This is a great way to get an objective view on how you match up against others who have your same job title. Weekly Monitoring Reflection:  This might be the hardest thing in this whole strategy, simply because you would do it week after week, year after year.  And you have to be, as Jim Collins would say, brutally honest. How are things going? How is the job going? How are your revenue streams? What if you lost your job today are you ready?  What can you do this week to prepare for a job transition? Are you happy? Are you satisfied?  What should you do to have the lifestyle you want, or think you deserve? These are the types of questions you could ask yourself each week.  Be honest in your response.  My suggestion is that you answer them in a journal, so its not just a mental exercise of talking to yourself, but you have a record of your ups and downs and growth over the years. The result of this step is, really, career management. You are gaining more control over your career. When a change happens in your job, you are okay, because you have been doing things for your career management. branding, networking, etc. This should bring you peace of mind, and the feeling of control is a lot better than the feeling of despair. 3 Ways to Find Employer Brand Data Online How do you measure your employer brand? That’s a question we get to ask a lot, and the answer seemed to differ every time. So we did some thinking. The final result is this little (or maybe BIG) project that we’ve been working on for a while: *drumroll please* The Employer Brand Index! *audience clapping enthusiastically* Hooray! In this article we give you a bit of insider information, we explain how we collect data for our Employer Brand Index. We usually look at all kinds of under-generated platforms, but in this article, we use Glassdoor, Instagram, and Quora as three examples. Three perspectives In order for you to have a nice overview of your employer brand, we’re taking a look at three different platform variations. First of all, the one we’re all checking out at some point (let’s face it): review websites. You know, the lovely lists and recognizable, (hopefully) five shining stars. Everyone wants to aim for the best score, but let’s take a second glance beyond. Social media? The good old socials. Even though it has become one the most clogged space on the internet, we still want to figure out what’s happening in the buzzing *bee reference, shoulder pat if you got that* social scene. Let’s just say we’re going to infinity and beyond! Third and final perspective is the forums! We know, it sounds like a ‘00 kind of noun, but trust me, there’s some good stuff on there! 1. Employer Review Websites The most well-known one is Glassdoor, who also publish their annual ‘Best Places To Work’ online. Let’s be honest: a lot of companies really, really want to get up there on the number one spot. Glassdoor is all about user-submitted feedback, or as they call it employee-generated content. Besides some good old opinions of former employees, it will also give you insights into salary, CEO-likeness and whether employees would recommend it to a friend. Because, let’s face it, word of mouth is still pretty big. Social Media Yup, I’m sure you have all the platforms covered with official accounts, verified ticks and so on. However, when it comes to social media platforms, for instance, “The Gram” Instagram, we will be going beyond the standard comments on your posts. Let’s just say we dive into the world of hashtags, locations and all additional employer branding content. Instagram is only an example, I’m pretty sure you can mention tons of other social media channels, but hey, we don’t want to give it all away at once! New today! I made a point here, forums are extremely diverse, that’s why we need to observe them through ‘employer brand eyes’. The World of Hemp The world of hemp and hemp oil is seemingly controversial, because hemp is cannabis.  Which means hemp is a drug, right? This could not be farther from the truth.   Because hemp comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant, and contains only trace amounts of THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive cannabinoid that makes a user “high.”     The fact is, if we can see past the distant relationship between hemp and THC, numerous markets in the United States, and the rest of the world, could be revolutionized. Hemp and Sustainability Hemp is one of the most sustainable plants on the earth. Harvested hemp produces hemp seeds, hemp oil, and hemp fiber â€" all of which help to produce a multitude of products. In the chart, you can see a number of the products derived from the hemp plant; by no means is this an exhaustive list: In an agricultural system that currently uses poisonous pesticides on major crops, such as wheat and cotton, hemp is a healthy choice due to its ability to naturally fight off insects. More specifically, the production of wheat in order to raise livestock is literally ruining the environmental makeup of the planet, hemp is an alternative that would not only continue the global food economy, but also serve as a textile, motor-fuel, and nutrient source. Hemp can serve as a more efficient, healthy, and versatile resource if we are willing to embrace its benefits. Hemp Oil and Nutrition Perhaps most importantly, hemp oil has the ability to positively impact the human body from a nutritional perspective. In the world of nutrition, there is constant conversation surround the topic of “healthy fats.” Hemp naturally produces the ideal 3:1 omega 6 to omega 3 fat ratio, making in one of the best external sources of healthy fat. This meat perfume was obviously a promotional stunt designed to sell more burgers, but in general, corporate brand extensions are serious attempts to grow a brand beyond its initial range of products. Sometimes the tactic works, and other times it just leads to good comedy. Dont lose your focus and try to be all things to all people. Be true to your brand identity and stay focused.
