My Favorite Things Abbies Picks - When I Grow Up

My Favorite Things Abbies Picks - When I Grow Up I so need to FOCUS a bit more on the simple things in life by Nina Matthews Photography Time to welcome my former client Abbie Mood to my new-ish series, My Favorite Things. I love all tools she has handy to make it rain during a creative dry spell! It’s tough to stay inspired ALL the time (at least for me anyway), so I like to keep some resources handy that help me in times of a creative drought. Pinterest Inspiration Board I am not a regular Pinterest user, but when I am on, I try to add at least a couple images to my inspiration board. My Inspiration Board has a collection of quotes, pictures, and artwork that gets me going, so to speak. I also have a career specific Pinterest board that focuses on dogs and dog training, since that’s my “thing.” I use this board if I ever start to wonder why the heck I do what I do, though luckily that doesn’t happen too often! Twitter List My most favorite list out of all of my Twitter lists is my “Creative Peeps” list. Anytime I need to get motivated, I can check out this feed and there is a good chance that someone on there has said something or posted something that inspires me. If you aren’t following at least these people, I highly recommend them: @whenigroupcoach (obviously), @simonsinek, @laurasimms, @taragentile, @jenlouden, @susanakasark, @intuitivebridge, @daniellelaporte. Books There are a couple books on my list that I go back to when I need some inspiration to work, write, or get out there and market myself and my biz. I usually stumble upon exactly what I’m looking for in one of these: Fire Starter Sessions by Danielle LaPorte The Accidental Creative: How to Be Brilliant at Moment’s Notice by Todd Henry A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle The Referral Engine: Teaching Your Business to Market Itself by John Jantsch Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die by Chip Dan Heath Any one of my books about my “thing.” TED Talks If you haven’t watched one of these, you are missing out! I should also tell you up front that they can become addicting. Start with Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action, Brene Brown: The power of vulnerability, or Elizabeth Gilbert: Your elusive creative genius. And don’t say I didn’t warn you. If all else fails… Go outside. Walk or run around your city, your mountains, your beach, your forest, or your favorite trail. Stop trying so hard and just be. It will come. Abbie is a preschool Special Education Teacher and, thanks to her work with Michelle, also figured out that when she grows up she wants to help dogs and their owners to understand each other. You can read more about how that’s working out at Communicate with your Dog. She lives just north of Denver in Colorado and spends her time volunteering at the Humane Society, hiking with her own dogs, and exploring what the world has to offer!
